A Couple of Questions for ... Jerome Bettis
By Marc D. Allan
Jerome Bettis returns in August for his second season as an analyst for "Football Night in America."
Q: Last year, I asked you how the Steelers beat the Colts in the 2006 playoffs. You told me, I wrote it and this year, the Colts won the Super Bowl. Are you and I getting Super Bowl rings?
A: Maybe we should. I was very honest and clear about it, and I really believe if they read it and understood the mistakes that they made and corrected those – they weren't major mistakes – they could win. I'm happy to see them win. They're a good football team. I think that window was beginning to close a bit, just because of free agency and everything, but I think they're reinvigorated now and they have a sense of urgency of how to get it done. I don't think they're as good a team as they were last year, but they're still good enough to win.
Q: So your prognosis for them this year?
A: They'll be a playoff team. I can't say they'll win it all, but they'll definitely be a playoff team. Obviously, the schedule is going to be really tough and, as a defending champion, you get everybody's best. Everybody's going to be more aggressive in attacking the Colts.
